"Coding is fun because you get to figure out different ways of figuring things out." - Grace, grade 3
Across all industries, computational thinking is becoming as important a skill set as numeracy and literacy. To prepare our children for the jobs of the future, we need computer science education both in and out of school. Despite making up half of our K-12 student popuation and nearly 60% of college enrollments, girls and women are far less likely than boys and men to study computing and earn degrees and careers in related fields.
HowGirlsCode aims to encourage elementary-age girls to see a place for themselves in the world of computer science, and to see a place for computer science in their worlds. Our after-school classes in coding and robotics, as well as our annual Mind, Body, Coding summer camp engage girls in the exciting and challenging topics of coding and computational thinking. Guest speakers from high schools, universities, and the tech industry serve as role models and inspirational examples of our students' possible futures.
These girls would not have this opportunity without your generosity!
We welcome you to support our work enriching the lives of girls through computing education.
Give a girl the gift of code!
